Main Task: Double Page Spread FINAL

Main Task: Contets Page FINAL

Main Task: Front Cover FINAL

Main Task: FC, CP, DPS, Mock Ups

Main Task: Unmanipulated Photos

I will be using this image as in my front page, as my main image. The lighting is low key which gives a hip hop gangsta feel. It is a mid shot which allows the audience the view the subect easily . The background is quite plain which gives the audience a better focus on the subject. The NVC of the subject is very straight but with a smerk. His custome is very urban and as he is holding a microphone and has headphones this links to the hip hop culture.
I will be using this image for my DPS because The lighting from the setting is very ambigious and matches the colours in my colour scheme. The low angle shot creates a depth and the Mise En Scene of the image links to my genre (Hip Hop, R&B)The image is Landscape which means it will be suited for the DPS.

I will be using this image in my contents page, as one of the featured articles. The lighting is hey key this will give more of an effect as the custome is contrasting with the background this would attract the audience. It is a medium close up which allows the audience the view the subect easily . The background is quite plain which gives the audience a better focus on the subject.

I might include this image in my contents page as it gives a contrasting view so that there is a variety of images i can use.

I might also use this image in my contents page as it is quite unique and the plain background makes the girl the main focus point also as the custome is very open this links alot to my genre (R&B, Hip-Hop)

Main Task: Case Study of a Publishing House

Conde Nast Publications is a publishing house that produces many successful, award-winning magazines. The company has produced 18 major magazines, 4 business publications and over 50 different applications for smart phones. Condé Nast is largely considered to be the originator of the “lifestyle magazines”, a type of magazines focused on a particular class or interest instead of targeting the largest possible readership. Its magazines focus on a wide range of subjects, including travel, food, home, culture, and other interests, with fashion the larger portion of the company's focus. More recently, Condé Nast has expanded its offerings to include marketing services and consumer-focused products such as apps and licensed merchandise.

Some of their most popular magazines are:

Vogue:

Glamour:

This publishing house has targeted many different audiences with each different magazine that it produces so that they could attract readers of all types. As they have a wide range of magazines they are able to generate a large sum of money as the magazines are based on different sectors of life. However if they only appealed to one certain audience then they would be limited with what they could do and there would only be a certain number of people that would buy their products and they wouldn't make as much money as they do. However, since they appeal to several different audience types, it means that they are less limited with who will buy their products and their sales will therefore be increased.

Although they have magazines that will mainly attract females rather than men, their publications are generally suitable for both sexes and all magazines feature images of both men and women in them. The age range that their publications appeal to is wide as their magazines focus on many different things.

Main Task: Mood Board

Main Task: Profiling Your Audience

The Industry! Reader; Vanessa, 17, music is a very important part of her life as it gets her by everyday, she loves R&B/Hip Hop music as this connects to her social life as her friends are also enjoy the type of music she listens to (R&B/Hip-hop). She is always seen with headphones wherever she goes as music is basically her life, she watches music, listens to music and plays music. This type of music impacts the type of parties/clubs she goes to and who she mixes with, it also influences her attitude as– she is proud and confident of who she is, she follows the R&B fashion sense as she is very trendy and stylish (using the Industry magazine) – the music also influences how she dresses and presents herself and her lifestyle this creates who she is in general and who can tell by the way she walks, talks and dresses.

In her spare time she reads music magazines to know what is going on in the industry. Everywhere she is it’s about music; her occupation is a song writer which is why she reads The Industry to help her get ideas, she’s really passionate about R&B/Hip-Hop music and dances , and has a collection of The Industry magazine and is subscribed to it.

I am aiming to make my magazine a magazine that will attract people with similar characteristics and interests to Vanessa. I will devote 2 pages of my magazine to a collection of famous Hip-Hop artists and reveal their latest clothing styles, and where to get this kind of clothing.

Main Task: Audience Research

Main Task: Double Page Spread Conventions Diagram

This is the Double page spread convention diagram for the genre that i chose to study which is Hip-Hop R&B. The convention gives a brief description of the different things used to make the magazine e.g. the subject name, the main image, quotes, colour schemes etc.

Main Task: Double Page Spread Textual Analysis

Colour Scheme: This magazine double page spread has quite a simple colour scheme; it is jus an image of Naz and taking up most of the double page spread and to the right is jus a white basic background. There is very little colour.

Character: The double page spread photograph is that of a famous rapper Naz

Image: On the left hand side of the double page spread is an image of Naz (a famous rapper) the picture of a medium close up .The image does carries on onto the right hand side of the page. There is a little bit of text that is overlapping the image. The costume the man is wearing is casual seeing that he is a tank top. The colours of the costume are casual as he is in a gym also it is appealing to there target audience which are listeners of the hip-hop genre.

Subject name: Is positioned in the top right hand corner stating the name of the rapper being addressed visibly.

Drop Capital: The drop capital is large taking nine lines of the article. It is also in the colour red which makes it more engaging as it is on a white background therefore clearly showing the start of the article.

Quotes: There are two quotes in the double spread magazine, one situated at the top of the magazine on the right hand side and the second one on the bottom right of the magazine overlapping the image. One quote is the largest text on the page, catching the reader’s eye. It is also situated on the lower 3rd in the centre of the double page spread overlaying the main image and breaking up a column in the article, which can also display its importance clearly.

Main Task: Contents Page Conventions Diagram

Main Task: Front Cover Conventions Diagram

This is the front page convention diagram for the genre that i chose to study which is Hip-Hop R&B. The convention gives a brief description of the different things used to make the magazine e.g. the selling line, the mast head, cover lines, main cover line etc.

Main Task: Front Cover Textual Analysis

Denotation: The magazine cover is a photographic image of 3 people standing bolding and looking directly at the camera. It is a medium long shot showing from their head right down to their waist. They look to be dressed very smart this shows that something important is about to happen and also it connotes that they are hardworking, Their stature is very confident as they are standing very boldly and firm. The background is dark with a hint of grey, and the photograph covers up the body of the magazine. Behind the image is the “VIBE” masthead, there are various cover lines in white, the main cover line is in black and red, a bar code at the bottom, selling line at the top of the masthead and the sell by date at the bottom left underneath the barcode.

Connotation: The meaning attached to the photograph image of the 3 people is to give a very hardworking and bossy look because of the way they are dressed, they way they are stood and how they present themselves, Their costume also makes them look very smart as the clothes worn look very neat and presentable. Also their costume is very modern but classy which appeals to a younger audience but also those who are older and enjoy listening to R&B. The two men in front (P-Diddy and Rick Ross) are both wearing black suits which could emphasise that class and that they are hardworking, their look may imply that they are only made to do music as their look is quite bold and their posture brings a more hardworking and bossy feeling towards the audience reading the magazine.

Masthead: Vibe masthead is very distinctive: plain white with no outline or drop shadow just a plain simple heading. The font for the masthead is similar to 'sans serif' and it is all in capital letters. The name 'Vibe' isn't a very well known name so it suggests that it's a new thing going on, something new to try and is suggesting that you 'try something new' everyday.

Costume: Their costume is very formal as he is wearing suits and mostly black clothing. The way they are dressed gives of a feeling of a very business bossy person as they looks neat and presentable and also like they are only there for business. The males are wearing watches and pinkie rings which may connote that they are rich. This costume has been chosen carefully to appeal to a younger audience for the magazine as they are the people who listen to this type of music.

Props: There aren’t any props used in this magazine
Setting: There is only a little amount of setting; however the black and grey background connotes the bossy image of the 3 people, the setting doesn’t have any drawbacks as the image of the people are still the main focus of the magazine.

Lighting: The lighting is high key as the light reflects of a dark background making the image quite even and free from dark shadows.
Non-Verbal communication: The non-verbal communication shown is the straight look of the people; it gives a very bossy look and also a look that they don’t play around with their music. Their posture is very strong as they are standing boldly.

Cover-lines: There are no main cover lines that are easily recognisable. There is no text next to the photographs so it is hard to distinguish weather or not they are in actual fact cover-lines. The cover-lines are quite confusing as there is no text so its not certain to the buyer weather or not they are cover-lines. The cover-lines not only overlap the main image but they overlap the other

Barcode: A standard barcode has been used. It’s positioned on the bottom left hand side of the page.

Date lines: The month and year of the magazine along with the price is located underneath the bar code.

Selling line: The selling line is short and snappy; it’s easily recognisable and is the trademark for VIBE magazine. Along the top of the magazine in a bold sans serif font band names are written. The font is white and red against a contrasting black background.

Website link: The website link is displayed within the bar code along with the date and price of
the magazine. It isn’t clear and is easily unrecognisable. It’s not very distinctive on the magazine cover.Target Audience: It appears to me that the likely Target Audience would be teenagers who listen to R&B and like these artists.

Main Task: Introduction

Hello my name is Otito Enebeli and I am currently studying AS Media Studies. I have been asked to produce a front cover, contents page and double page spread on my chosen genre, my chosen genre is Hip Hop R&B. In order for me to be able to complete my music magazine, I will need to research front covers, contents pages and a double paged spread of a music magazine. I would also need to complete textual analysis of an existing music magazine to help complete the 1st part of my music magazine analysis

Futhermore, I have chosen to do this particular genre because I enjoy listening to this particular type of music and also I have knowledge with this form of music. In order to create my music magazine I will use the software Adobe Photoshop CS3.
