Induction: Movie poster textual analysis

Denotation- The image is of a man set for adventure; he is standing boldly and holding a whip. The man is standing in front of a cave which may imply that he had been looking for something inside, he may be an archaeologist due to his clothing and the props he is carrying and also because of the setting he is in.

Connotation- The meaning attached to his gun and whip is a sense of protection, as he looks like he is going to get into danger hence the reason for him carrying these two items, His costume presents an aspect of a hard working man as his clothes are dirty and also as he is coming out a cave and because of the way he is dressed and what he is carrying, he looks like an adventorous archaeologist. Him standing at the bottom of the stairs could represent that he is just about to eneter or has just finished coming out of the cave. The skull behind him represents an atmosphere of danger, his clentched fist and posture represent that he is meant for action and he is not going to back down from a fight or a challenge.

Props- He has a whip, a side bag and a gun which means that this would be used for protection as he is going to get in danger by the way he is used and the props he is using.

Lighting- The lighting is bright at the back but cold and dull in front, this shows that something bad is going to happen as it creates a very dark and gloomy effect but also a optimistical one as the light reflecting is very bright.

Costume- He dressed like a warrior, his costume is quite dark, his dressed very old fashioned as his clothes are very basic, his sleeves rolled up and his buttons undone means that he is going on and adventure, he clothes are dirty which represents that he is very hardworking.

Setting- Outside a cave, the skull in the back is creating a sense of death there are ancient carvings around the ends of the cave which gives a very historical aspect, the skull emphasises danger, He is just leaving out of the cave as he is at the bottom of the steps.

Anchorage- The title emphasises that it is more action adventure and also more comic like as the title starts off big and then gradually decreases, they use a sans serif font to create a sense of a comic like movie
